Getting started with the Panasonic GX9 Lumix
The first thing that strikes you when you discover the Lumix GX9 Panasonic is its lightness and small size! It’s almost like a compact camera when there is no lens on. Of all Panasonic’s range of expert hybrid cameras, it’s definitely the lightest and smallest camera body. When you know that it is technically at the same level as the Lumix G9 (except for the video), you are quite impressed.
If you come from a reflex or a camera with a more pronounced handgrip, you may be disturbed by the thinness of Panasonic GX9 Lumix. Accustomed for several months to the robust Lumix G9, I needed a few days of adaptation to juggle easily between the two. But it’s quickly forgotten, the Panasonic GX9 is so easy to use and to get used to!
Lumix GX9 Design
With the Panasonic GX9 Lumix, we get a vintage camera look, especially if you opt for the Silver model. The Lumix GX9 body borrows the codes of the argentic camera voluntarily, as well in its completions as in certain functions proposed. Clearly, when I saw it, it was part of its look that made me want to fall for the Panasonic GX9.
Buttons, wheel and settings access on the Panasonic GX9
I’ve had Panasonic Lumix cameras for three years now, so the transition to the Lumix GX9 seemed very easy to me! Nevertheless, I confirm that I appreciate the Panasonic settings’ access and the different possibilities: buttons / wheels or touch screen. Although the body is small, all the necessary buttons are easily accessible. The manual, automatic, aperture modes can be quickly selected using a wheel, as well as the main settings without going through the touch screen. The buttons are well positioned so that they are easily found even when you are shooting from the viewfinder.
I always forget to check my exposure, so I’m happy to have an “exposure” wheel that I can access very easily. Another useful button: the one to quickly switch to “Post Focus” functionality and the one to switch to “4K photos” mode. An easy access very useful when it is necessary to trigger quickly!
Lumix GX9 Panasonic is very easy to use! If you had a compact camera before, you won’t feel any difference in size! Light body, it is ideal to go for a walk, Panasonic GX9 Lumix allows to have in any occasion a camera with a beautiful image quality!
Viewfinder of the Panasonic GX9 Lumix
Another appreciable point of this small camera : the viewfinder ! Before Panasonic, we had a Nex from Sony and the lack of a viewfinder was a real black spot. Here, not only the Panasonic GX9 Lumix has a viewfinder but also this viewfinder is orientable! And I love to shoot with a viewfinder! Please note that there is a wheel to adjust the viewfinder to your view! Be sure to check before you tell yourself that you see blurred in the viewfinder.
Lumix GX9 Screen
The screen is top, I am all the more sensitive because I wear glasses and I can be quickly uncomfortable in my shooting if I do not have a good screen. On the Panasonic GX9 Lumix case, the screen is only tiltable. For me, who am not a fan of directing my screen outside the camera to photograph or film, this is more than enough.
However, you will have to be careful with the screen since you will not be able to turn it over. It is best to buy glass protection (see our section on accessories).
Panasonic GX9 Lumix : an expert camera accessible to everyone
Tagged as an expert camera, you could be slowed down to buy Lumix GX9 Panasonic if you are beginners! However, this camera is quite accessible whatever your level in photo. Getting started is easy, and you’ll find automatic and scene modes to help you learn before you switch to aperture, speed or manual mode.
In manual mode, Lumix GX9 body helps you in your photo settings, if they are not good, a red gauge appears before triggering! Beginner, you can crack on Panasonic GX9 without fear!
Post Focus : Select focus point after shooting
When we begin photography, we often hope to be able to make beautiful pictures. Except, there’s so many settings to think about, you get lost. Fortunately, on some cameras like Panasonic GX9 Lumix, you can use the Post Focus option! But what is Post Focus? It’s the opportunity to choose your focus point after shooting!
4K photos for perfect motion capture
Tired of failing your moving subject photos? Beginner, speed mode is obscure for you? With the Panasonic GX9 you can use the “4K Photos” mode to make all your shots a success! What is the “4K” photo? The camera films in 4K resolution and then allows you to select still images. Your camera records 30 pictures per second in 4K resolution which in terms of speed far surpasses burst mode! That’s how I was able to immortalize our son’s first steps without any blurry pictures!
You can also choose to record a picture a few seconds before shooting. This is an ideal shooting mode for animals and children!

Panasonic GX9 Lumix : review
Since several weeks that I photograph almost daily with the Panasonic GX9 Lumix, I can already say that I love it! It has even dethroned my pro camera for my photo walks as Luix GX9 can take beautiful photos while occupying very little space in my bag. The Panasonic GX9 is clearly a great camera that shoots well and fast.
With its 20 million pixels and all its technology, I make beautiful pictures with the Lumix GX9. It’s a 5-axis stabilized body, which is essential when you have zoom lenses like 35-100mm, 12-60mm or 14-140mm.
Panasonic GX9 Lumix handles white balance very well ! I’ve used it quite a bit in restaurants in automatic mode, and I’ve been bluffed by the high quality of the photos, even in high ISO between 800 and 1250.
The wheels and buttons are well placed, so you are not annoyed when you photograph! In a short time, I am largely satisfied with the Lumix GX9 camera! And, shooting with a viewfinder on such a small camera is a real plus.
If you need to choose a camera to make beautiful photos in any circumstance, buy the Lumix GX9 !
Finally, it’s only a feeling but, in automatic mode, I find that the photos are very bright while having warm colors. It’s subjective, but I really like the grain and colorimetry of Panasonic GX9 Lumix!
Panasonic GX9 Lumix : an expert hybrid camera perfect for traveling
Even if we practice photography daily, our camera is mainly used during our travels. But for us travel means lots of walking with a full backpack, and now a little one in the back. In short, a light camera is essential. That’s why we prefer hybrid cameras. Nevertheless, a light camera body doesn’t mean less qualities with Lumix GX9!
And in terms of quality, the Lumix GX9 Panasonic has enough to please more than one! Hybrid camera at less than 1000$ with lens, if you buy the Lumix GX9, you opt for one of the best quality/price ratio on the market!
Lumix GX9 : an ultra-light camera
Once again, it is an ideal camera to travel light without trimming on quality photos! With its 450 grams, it’s hard to fathom all the technology in the case. Here, we are on an expert with a 20 million pixel sensor that we can carry around all day ! Very discreet, you won’t be afraid to take it out wherever you are!
Panasonic mobile app and features
Too little is said about mobile app in camera tests, but a mobile application with its camera can have many uses! In any case, if you opt for a Panasonic GX9 you will see that you will not be able to do without the ImageApp app.
Using your phone as a remote control to trigger
Many times while travelling, you lack pictures of all the protagonists of the trip! Unless you’re on an organized trip, there’s always one to take the picture that won’t be on it. There, with a tripod and your smartphone, you can easily take group photos! You don’t need a remote control, it’s your cell phone that will trigger it!
Using your phone as a remote control to trigger, it’s also very convenient when you’re all alone to take pictures!
Transfer your photos on a trip
When travelling, taking lots of pictures is good, saving them is better! Panasonic’s ImageApp mobile application is a must! You can easily upload your photos to a phone or tablet! It’s great for sending pictures of your holidays and taunting your friends when you’re on the beach!
Panasonic GX9 Lumix Portfolio
Which lens is the best with Lumix GX9 Panasonic ?
The Lumix GX9 comes in many body + lens packs! So, how to find your way through all the camera + lens offers?
Panasonic GX9 + Lumix 12-60 mm lens
The Lumix GX9 + lens pack we recommend, especially for travel, is the GX9 + Lumix 12-60 mm f3.5-5.6 lens. With this lens, you will have much more versatility!
Which accessories for Panasonic GX9 Lumix ?
Ready to buy the Panasonic GX9? Some accessories will be essential to go on holiday with your new camera.
Battery for Lumix GX9 Panasonic
A second battery for your Lumix GX9 body, it is an essential to leave serene all day ! Small cameras mean small batteries and therefore more limited autonomy. You can count about 250 shots with the Lumix GX9 battery. This may seem sufficient. Nevertheless, for each of our cameras we always have a backup battery charged in the backpack!
In addition, the battery only charges with the camera connected. If necessary, an external charger compatible with Panasonic can be very useful, especially to charge both batteries at the same time and save time.
Screen protector for Lumix GX9
The Panasonic GX9 screen is tiltable but not fully rotatable. So, when you’re not shooting, you can’t protect the screen by flipping it over. This is the case for many cameras, so if you are clumsy or your bag is regularly very full, consider buying a glass screen protector for your Lumix GX9.
Which memory card for the Lumix GX9?
To handle the 4K video on the Panasonic GX9 and get the most out of a fast shutter release, the speed of the SD card is crucial. That’s why we bought a 64GB Sandisk Extreme Pro SDXC card. It makes it possible to make approximately 5000 photographs. You can also choose a 128GB Sandisk Extreme Pro SDXC card with over 10,000 shots possible. The advantage is that you don’t have to unload every day, especially if you shoot in RAW.
