Handling of the Panasonic 100-300 mm lens
The first thing that hits you with the Lumix 100-300 is its compactness. A little over 500 grams, it can be easily attached to a lightweight camera like the Lumix GX9 ! You can take pictures from a very long distance in complete discretion and without weighing down your bag.
If you have a 14-140mm Lumix lens, for example, this lens is an ideal complement to travel and cover the full range of travel photography.
In an animal park like the one at the Tête d’Or in Lyon, France, you quickly get caught up in the game of being able to zoom in from very far away.
Which use for this Panasonic Lumix 100-300 mm lens?
In theory, this super zoom is primarily aimed at animal photo enthusiasts who own a Panasonic or Olympus hybrid camera. But don’t wait until you go on a safari to buy it. We tested it for the first time in the park La Tête d’Or in Lyon and it is the perfect place to test Panasonic 100-300 mm lens. We loved to take a close-up shot of wild animals. For a visit to the zoo, this is an unavoidable lens.
But this is not the only interesting use of the Lumix 100-300mm. At the park again, we took the opportunity to photograph our son…from a far away place! The lens creates a distance from the subject that makes the camera less intrusive. The photos taken with it are therefore more natural and even more beautiful! Benoît was able to capture photos of our child completely absorbed in his play with me. Usually, it takes a lot of ingenuity to take picture of our son as soon as he gets glimpse of the camera.
In a park or on the beach, the Lumix 100-300mm f4.0-5.6 is therefore ideal for making very beautiful portraits or photographing life scenes… at a distance from the subject, pictures are more natural.
Light and compact, you can also take it with you when hiking, for example. In Chamonix, we took the opportunity to see the Aiguille du Midi and the Mont Blanc like never before…!
Be aware, the colors are different because the following pictures were taken at sunset at 20/30 minute intervals.
With this kind of lens, you get to invent and increase your creativity in photography. For example, we got up at 5 am to photograph a moon eclipse from our balcony!

Panasonic Lumix 100-300 mm f4.0-5.6 : review
This is one of our favorite lenses with the Lumix 35-100mm f2.8. When we visit cities, we mainly use a standard 12-35mm zoom lens. But, as soon as we can, we fix this lens. In Chamonix, or at the Parc de la Tête d’Or in Lyon, we were able to enjoy our super zoom.
The Lumix 100-300mm f4.0-5.6 lens provides beautiful bokeh at 100mm, 200mm and 300mm ! In our opinion, it is the best value for money for 4/3 micro super zoom lenses. And the pictures are sharp at any distance.
We must admit, we were pleasantly surprised by the good quality of the photos. We were a little skeptical about the purchase because of the lower aperture than on other higher end lenses we have. Finally, the pictures are really beautiful and the Lumix 100-300 lens allows very beautiful bokeh. So much so that it has become one of our favorite lenses.
Clearly, with all its qualities, it is an essential lens for any photo enthusiast.
