No need to go by car to la Plagne and put on your snow tires. To get to La Plagne resort, you don’t need to be an experienced driver on snow (or even ice)! It is one of the easiest ski resorts to reach by train and bus. From London or Brussels, you can even find direct Eurostar to la Plagne during Winter Season.
La Plagne is less than 20km from Aime SNCF station. From Paris and Lyon, it’s very fast to get to La Plagne (less than 3 hours by train).
If you have a cheap budget, you can go to la Plagne by bus from paris or Lyon with OuiBus. Once you arrive in Aime La Pagne, Altibus, a bus service, drives you directly to La Plagne (count 10€/person).
One thing we like a lot is that easy access to La Plagne ski resort, after 7 hours by train, we had less than 45 minutes by bus. Then all you have to do is get your ski equipment, which is very easy to book online before you leave.
Where to book your accommodations to ski in la Plagne ?
Unlike Courchevel, you don’t need to be a billionaire to go on a ski holiday in La Plagne. There are many holiday rental offers and in particular Pierre & Vacances residences at affordable prices for everyone (especially out of season). It’s the type of accommodation we like to book when we ski in La Plagne. As a bonus, the ski pass can be booked at the same time as the apartment with a significant discount.
If you have a larger budget, there are great hotels in La Plagne. Like the Araucaria Hotel & Spa which looks really beautiful as well as the Hotel Le Vancouver. One day, we will break our piggy bank for a comfortable stay in a hotel or even in a chalet in la Plagne. During Winter Season, count more than 200€ per night.
Ski in la Plagne and enjoy a huge ski area in French Alps
The ski area of La Plagne is part of the Paradiski area. And this one is huge, one of the biggest ski area in French Alps. So, even in the peak of the winter season, everyone can find a spot, there is for all tastes (Snowpark, Half Pipe, Air Bag, Waterslide…) and all levels of practice. The large number of lifts avoids long waiting times and, at worst, the staff always has a smile on their faces to remind us that we are on holiday. For the youngest and beginner skiers, “CoolSki” areas make it possible to feel safe in learning this sport, a real plus to progress without risk.
As for the lifts package, we take the “Paradiski” giving us access to the whole ski area, so we were able to go to Les Arcs and explore different landscapes.
Here are the two lifts packages proposed by La Plagne:
- Domaine La Plagne: gives you access to the La Plagne ski area only.
- Paradiski Unlimited: access to all the ski areas of Paradiski’s partner resorts.
To choose the best package, it depends on your level of skiing and the intensity of your practice. For School Ski, the “Domaine La Plagne” package is enough, on the contrary, if you ski a lot and well, the “Paradiski Unlimited” is ideal.
That is, you can book your lifts package at the same time as your rental. Thanks to partnerships, the package quickly becomes much cheaper.
Ski in la Plagne and go to school ski to improve your practice
For beginners but not only, it is very easy to find ski lessons, with the ESF in particular, at any time to learn or improve your practice. Each village in the resort has its own ski school. So, no need to rush in the morning, classes and slopes are just downstairs.
The meeting points are located at the start of the slopes and the teachers are always friendly. And all speaks english. One day, I even was the only french of the ski lessons. For courses too, it is best to book online at the same time as your accommodation.
Ski in la Plagne and spend your holiday in an authentic Savoyard atmosphere
La Plagne is composed of La Plagne 1800, La Plagne Bellecote, La Plagne 2000, La Plagne Montabert, Belle-Plagne and La Plagne Centre. And every village in the resort has its own atmosphere. Wherever you are, you will find restaurants and bars to enjoy evenings. And to reach the resorts between each village, La Plagne offers a free shuttle bus. Every quarter of an hour, it connects the various villages, all day long and even late in the evening.
Our favorite village is la Plagne 1800! The charm of La Plagne 1800 lies in the fact that it is located off-centre and consists of few apartments and even fewer bars. At first, we were afraid of being bored, but thanks to the shuttle, it never happened.
Also, after a day of skiing and a little rest in our apartment, we used to go to Belle-Plagne or La Plagne centre for shopping. A little tip, in La Plagne centre, we found a useful supermarket with not too high prices : at Super U. It’s very practical and thus avoid loading your suitcases with food.
